Africa-Press – Botswana. Selokolela Village Development Committee (VDC) has expressed gratitude to Lucara Botswana for repairing the community borehole which has non-operational for nearly a decade.
VDC chairperson, Ms Mmamotlapula Suting said in an interview that the borehole which started operating March this year, had proven invaluable to households and livestock. Previously, the community relied on manually operated water systems but now with the borehole operational, life has changed for the better, especially that it is fully automated and features floodlights and solar panels, improving accessibility and functionality.
It is also equipped with water storage tanks.
From inception, the borehole has been supported by cluster farmers who contribute for its regular maintenance and upkeep, a practice that remains in placeto guarantee its operational efficiency for both farmers and individual households.
The initiative is part of Lucara Botswana’s ongoing commitment to support communities nationwide, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UN SDG) six, which aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, as well as UN SDG 17, which focuses on partnerships for the goals. Such efforts contribute to a national pillar aimed at achieving prosperity and wellbeing for all citizens.
