Africa-Press – Botswana. Its a do or die situation as eight teams battle to advance to the next round of the Orange FA Cup as they meet for quarterfinals over the weekend.
Sua Flamingoes, unbeaten at home for 19 months, will take the battle to Jwaneng Galaxy FC at the Galaxy Stadium on Saturday.
The Flamingoes, known as ‘Bafana Ba Letswai’, enter this encounter with immense confidence following their recent 2-0 victory over Security Systems in the FNB Premiership.
With aspirations of securing silverware this season, Sua Flamingoes, currently holding fourth position in the Premier League log standing, will leave nothing to chance as they intend to fight fiercely to progress in the Orange FA Cup.
Boasting a full roster of players capable of scoring, Sua Flamingoes is backed by an enthusiastic fan base that consistently rallies in support of the team.
Sua Flamingoes’ public relations officer, Lazarus Mafa said preparations were on track as the team had been undergoing rigorous training since Monday and emphasised their readiness for the encounter against Galaxy.
Mafa also highlighted the team’s ability to adjust tactics based on game situations.
Jwaneng Galaxy, affectionately known as ‘Lesagaripa’ by its loyal supporters, currently sits second in the Premier League with 57 points, trailing log leaders Gaborone United.
The defending champions are looking to leverage their home advantage to put on a captivating display of football for their fans while asserting their dominance in both the league and the FA Cup.
Despite overcoming challenges, including the loss of former coach Morena Ramorebodi to the senior national football team, Galaxy has maintained a winning momentum this season under coach Seemo Mpatane.
In other quarterfinals matches on Saturday, Taung Young Strikers FC will square off against VTM FC at the Royal Aria Stadium in Tlokweng at 3pm, followed by Security Systems XI against Holy Ghost FC at 6pm at the same venue.
On Sunday, the highly anticipated Kgatleng derby, featuring Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Matebele FC, will unfold at the Royal Aria Stadium at 3pm.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs also known as ‘Magosi’, known for their big fan base, enter the FA Cup with significant pressure to perform and secure the title for their sponsors and investors.
Although their chances of winning the Premier League title seem slim, an FA Cup triumph will provide a much-needed redemption.
The hopes of Chiefs’ supporters rest on the experienced shoulders of coach, Pontsho Moloi, who holds a rich legacy in the FA Cup as both a player at ‘Magosi’ and a coach at Gaborone United.
His expertise could prove vital as they seek success in this weekend’s fixture.
Matebele FC, currently sitting in 10th place with 30 points in the Premier League, is gearing up for an exciting FA Cup clash against Magosi.
Although their aspirations for a league championship may have dissipated, the team is determined to make a statement in the cup competition, where matches present a new opportunity for glory.
Affectionately known as ‘Kuka Ntsu’ by their loyal fanbase, Matebele FC is hoping to bounce back from their recent setback, a 2-0 defeat to Galaxy in the league last weekend. This loss has been a wake-up call for the team, spurring them to regain their competitive edge and provide a spirited performance against Magosi.
Their recent form may not reflect their capabilities, but the team remains optimistic and determined to turn the tide as they seek to make a deeper run in this prestigious tournament.
Fans can expect an electrifying match as both teams vie for a spot in the next round of the FA Cup.
