Africa-Press – Botswana. The Botswana Football League (BFL) will this year host excellence awards to reward those who have worked hard this season.

The BFL chief executive officer, Bennett Mamelodi said the awards, which will be held in Gaborone on May 25, were to celebrate excellence.

He said three new categories Best Defender, Best Midfielder, and Supporters Player of the Year had been introduced.

Mamelodi said football lovers should therefore expect a rigorous process, which was also data-based, which had been employed to make sure that the awards were transparent.

“The process will ensure that there would be no ambiguity, and they will be sponsored by our title sponsor, First National Bank Botswana,” he said.

Meanwhile, some of the awards include amongst others the Young player of the Season award, which will be presented to the best performing player aged 20 years or younger. The winner will be walk away with P25 000.

The nominees are attacking midfielder Kamogelo Moloi of Orapa United, Gaborone United midfielder Omphile Ramoagi, and TAFIC attacker, Kazadi Gauthier.

The Goalkeeper of the Year ward has pitted Goitseone Phoko of Jwaneng Galaxy against Thabo Motswagole of Gaborone United and Tshepo Mooketsi of TAFIC, and the winner will also receive P25 000.

The Defender of the Season category has Thabo Leinanyane, and Tatenda Gora, both of GU, Thami Zulu from Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Kemoneetswe Mmangwedi and Shanganani Ngada of TAFIC, as well as Thato Seagateng of Sua Flamengoes. The prize money is P25 000.

For the Midfielder of the Season category there is Lebogang Ditsele, Karabo Phiri, both from Gaborone United, Jwaneng Galaxy’s Gilbert Baruti, Manda Nongo of TAFIC, Matabele FC’s Moses Shidolo, Township Rollers’ Mothusi Cooper, and the winner will also be rewarded with P25 000.

All eyes will be on the Coach of the Year award category, which has Gaborone United’s Dimitar Pantev, TAFIC’s Elias Chinyemba and Mochudi Centre Chief’s coach Pontsho Moloi. The award carries a cash prize of P50 000.
