Africa-Press – Botswana. The 2025 edition of the Clash of Legends will feature four nations; Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Spectators will have the opportunity to watch the former national team players in action during a one-day football spectacle to be held at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown on June 21.
Speaking during the event launch, one of the Clash of Legends organisers, Sekhana ‘Nandos’ Koko said through this year’s edition, they aimed to celebrate rich football heritage shared across the region, hence they invited more countries.
He also said he was happy that they would be hosting the event for the third consecutive time.
He said despite the challenges, they soldiered on, adding that expectations were that the third edition would be more exciting given that they had included more countries.
Furthermore, Koko said they felt the time was now to host the tournament in a different area, hence they took it to Francistown.
He said the first game would be between Botswana against Namibia, followed by South Africa and Zimbabwe, adding that the losers will meet to fight for third position while the final match would follow thereafter.
Before the games, he said they would host coaching clinics on identified schools.
One of South Africa’s football legends, Matthew Booth said he was happy that the tournament would bring former players together.
Meanwhile team managers are Boitumelo Mafhoko for Botswana, Dokkies Schmidt for Namibia, Tinashe Nengomasha for Zimbabwe and Dikgang Mabalane for South Africa.
