Africa-Press – Botswana. The annual Women in Business Association (WIBA) Expo is set to take place at the Chedu Choga grounds in Francistown.
The event is expected to be officiated by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi. In an interview, WIBA President Ms Christinah Letshego shared that this year’s expo would be held under the theme: Shaping the Future Through Innovative Businesses.
The theme, she said, highlighted the importance of creativity in business and the incorporation of technology in marketing strategies. Ms Letshego emphasised that the WIBA expo provided a vital platform for women in business to collaborate and form partnerships, which was essential for business growth. She noted the necessity for women to transition from traditional business models to more innovative approaches, which would enhance their market penetration.
“The decision to host the expo in Francistown is strategic, given its industrialisation and significant population, including many women farmers who can collaborate to increase manufacturing and export capabilities,” she said.
Ms Letshego pointed out that greater participation of women in business could lead to enhanced product development, contributing to the country’s food security, as many women were involved in small businesses within the informal sector, adding that it would be the first to happen in Francistown.
“Most women buy products and resell them, but if they can innovate and develop their own products, we can see more high-quality Batswana products in the market,” she stated.
She further highlighted that women’s involvement in the economy could lead to job creation through mass production, which would require more labour. The WIBA Expo serves as an opportunity for women to leverage value chains, showcasing various products from different exhibitors. This exposure can facilitate networking and collaboration, ultimately fostering industrial growth among women entrepreneurs.
