Africa-Press – Botswana. Sport must serve as a platform for national development, youth empowerment, community wellness and economic opportunity.
This was said by Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) president Botsang Tshenyego during the ordinary general assembly on Saturday, who urged stakeholders to recommit themselves to focus on the systems and structures that made victory possible from grassroots to elite levels, but not just on the competitions ahead only.
He said sport must be an engine for dignity and transformation.
“Let us dare to imagine a Botswana where sport touches every village, every school and every family,” he said.
Tshenyego further said the current quadrennial 2025-2028 Strategy was already under development.
He said it would include the findings of the capability framework exercise to ensure that BNOC had the required resources and capabilities to deliver the strategic plan, followed by a budget and the preparation of annual business plans linked to the secretariat’s reporting and performance management system.
The on-going consultations, he said would ensure alignment to the framework of the Olympic Quadrennial plans for 2025-2028.
Tshenyego also highlighted that board structures and secretariat continued to challenge themselves to act with integrity at all times.
He said amongst other things, declaration of interests continued to be a standard requirement where there was potential for conflict.
“The board will continue to work on strengthening its committees to better enhance responsibility and accountability,” he said.
He also said the organisation continued to digitise their processes as they exploited more opportunities for the benefit of their stakeholders, which also helped them to respond to the environment and climate action mandate.
“We continued to go green and having a paperless environment. As opposed to the Annual General Assembly held virtually, for the Ordinary General Assemblies, we have a physical meeting due to the nature of business to be discussed, most importantly to highlight the Audited Financial statements from the previous year,” he said.
