Africa-Press – Botswana. In a bid to secure a spot in the elite league, Calendar Stars and Jwaneng Young Stars are set to clash in the first leg of their promotional playoffs at the Francistown City Council Stadium friday.

Both teams finished strong in their respective divisions, with Calendar Stars claiming second place in the First Division North with 39 points from 22 games, while Jwaneng Young Stars secured 33 points from 18 games in the First Division South.

Each team is eager to gain an advantage in this critical first leg before heading into the second leg. Calendar Stars’ coach, Joseph Mokgacha, said his team was ready for the challenge ahead.

“We have prepared well to take the fight to this team, focusing on every aspect of our game, including tactics and motivation,” he said. Mokgacha noted that their preparation has been strengthened by a series of consistent wins leading up to this encounter.

“While it will be a normal game, we understand that this is a different stage that requires a different mentality and approach,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of not conceding any goals, which could jeopardise their chances in the second leg.

“We aim to play in a way that allows us to have a strong position going into the next match,” he added.

Regarding team fitness, Mokgacha confirmed that there were no injuries, and the players were in high spirits, eager to showcase their skills on this significant stage.

He urged fans to come out in large numbers to support the team, describing them as the “12th player.”

On the other side, Jwaneng Young Stars’ coach, Matshidiso Moseki, shared that his team’s preparations were progressing well and ready to face Calendar Stars. However, he acknowledged the challenges of playing away from home. “Their supporters will be there rallying behind them, and they know the field better than we do.

Nonetheless, it is a game of football, and we are prepared for the challenge,” he said.

Moseki emphasised the need for his players to minimise mistakes and manage pressure effectively.

He said they were focusing on building the players mental so they know how to perform under pressure. “The morale within the Jwaneng Young Stars camp is high, with players excited about the opportunity to play in a match of this magnitude,” Moseki said.

The Saturday encounter is crucial for both teams, as they are just a few steps away from promotion to the Premier League.

This encounter is expected to be a thrilling match filled with excitement and competitive spirit. The second leg of the promotional playoffs is scheduled for June 13 at Galaxy Stadium, where the winner will earn a desired spot in the Premier League.
