Africa-Press – Botswana. Three Botswana table tennis players based in India, Arthur Kgaswe, Tshireletso Samuel, and Ndelu Mooketsi attended the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation–Para Table Tennis (PTT) Level 1 Coaching Course, which was held in India from June 2-6.

A press release from the Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA), says the trio participation marks another milestone in BTTA’s broader strategy to expand its technical capacity and strengthen the sport’s foundation both locally and abroad. It says with Botswana aiming for greater representation on international stages, including a historic Olympic debut targeted for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, investments in coaching and technical training are seen as critical building blocks.

“The BTTA continues to prioritise international training opportunities for both its players and technical officials, reflecting a vision to transform Botswana into a competitive force in global table tennis,” says the release.

The release further says the five-day course was delivered by world-renowned instructor, Mr Christian Lilleroos from the United States, who is also a seasoned coach with deep international experience. Lilleroos has previously worked with the Swedish national team and served as head coach for the United States at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

He also served a decade-long term as the Chairman of the International Para Table Tennis Committee (IPTTC) and has conducted 54 certified coaching courses across 18 countries.

The release says he was recently inducted into the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame, adding to the course’s prestige.

The event was sponsored by the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive development in the sport across member countries.
