Africa-Press – Botswana. The construction of Manyana-Moshupa road was awarded to Heinsite Construction in September last year, says Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Noah Salakae.
Responding to a question from Moshupa/Manyana MP, Mr Karabo Gare, Minister Salakae said the project, which commenced in October last year was estimated at P376,410,494.94 and its planned completion date was April 2026.
He said the project’s physical progress stood at 19 per cent versus 36 per cent with bush clearing, roadbed preparations and processing of fill material ongoing. Mr Salakae said acquisition of land for the road servitude was also ongoing and the contractor was procuring gravel from private sources while waiting to acquire permits for borrow pits.
He added that the contractor gave notice to suspend works from May 9 as a result of payment delays of two invoices. The minister said the invoices were paid on June 5 and June 17 respectively and the contractor thus resumed works on June 9 following payment of the first invoice.
He assured that the ministry would closely monitor the project to ensure its completion within time and budget. Mr Gare had asked the minister about progression of Manyana-Moshupa road construction.
