Africa-Press – Botswana. Mini shows have become a platform for Batswana craft businesses to showcase their works and reach a wider market.
Principal Home Economics Officer Thato Keiphithe said during the Okavango District Council (ODC) mini show in Gumare on Friday. The mini show aimed to promote crafts made by artisans in the district. Keiphithile observed that the annual mini show enabled local crafts businesses to showcase their products which ranged from basketry, woodwork, textiles, bead work and the forms of art.
She said the crafts showcased this year were from 14 categories made up from craftsmen who joined the annual competition under the ODC. Keiphithile said winners from the mini show would showcase at the annual consumer fair to be held in Gaborone in August which would expose their crafts to local and international markets.
She said the mini show included even non-wining crafts to benefit all businesses in the district. Keiphithe further urged young people to participate more in the annual competitions in order to promote their crafts which would motivate them and aid cultural preservation from generation to generation.
