Government Sends Condolences to Chimbombi Family

Africa-Press – Botswana. Dr Micus Chimbombi, the Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South and Minister of Lands and Agriculture, has died.

The accomplished scholar, civil servant, and politician passed away on July 26 at Sidilega Hospital in Gaborone, where he was receiving medical treatment. According to family representative Rev. Dr Rupert Hambira, memorial services would be held in multiple locations to honour Dr Chimbombi’s legacy. The first memorial service, is scheduled for today at his Gaborone residence in Extension 11 ministerial houses at 530pm.

On Monday, services will continue at his family home in Gabane. On Tuesday, a memorial service will be held at Broadhurst United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), which will be open to church members, political colleagues, and party supporters. The following day, Wednesday, the family will gather in Makopong at his ancestral village for another tribute. Family sources indicate that the funeral procession is being planned for Saturday.

According to a press release from government, the late Dr Chimbombi was an accomplished civil servant who rose through the ranks to the position of permanent secretary in the ministry of Agriculture.

He later joined politics as member of the Botswana National Front and ultimately became Umbrella for Democratic Change Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South in the 2024 national general elections where he won the constituency. Through the release, the government sends its deepest condolences to the Chimbombi family, relatives and friends during the difficult time of loss.

Dr Chimbombi is remembered for winning the hearts and minds of the Kgalagadi South electorate during parliamentary debates prior to the October 30 general elections.
