Africa-Press – Botswana. The acting Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr Edwin Dikoloti has said Zibalianja is an area situated at the north eastern tip of North West District.
Answering a question in Parliament on Thursday, Dr Dikoloti said that it was a lagoon and a source of Savuti channel. Dr Dikoloti said the lagoon attracted a high population of diverse animal and bird species. He indicated that it specifically lied between longitude 23 30’ East and longitude 23 45’ East and fell within Ngamiland.
Dr Dikoloti said it was at the intersection of NG14, NG15 and NG16 concession areas. He stated that it abutted Chobe National Park to the East and Linyanti River to the North and hence fell within the North West District.
The acting minister said Chobe District was established in 2006 and prior to the date, the current Chobe District was part of North West District. He said Chobe District had a total area of 20,800 kilometres squared, district boundaries and parameters were described and spelt out during the gazettement of the district boundary 2006.
Zibalianja, he said, was not part of the description and further advised that Zibalianja had therefore never been transferred from the Chobe District to the North West District. He said the area had always been part of and remained part of Ngamiland and the North West District.
The minister was responding to a question from the MP for Chobe, Mr Simasiku Mapulanga who had asked him to state the status of Zibalianja area, and whether Zibalianja area had been transferred from Chobe District to the North West District, and if so, when did the transfer occur and the justification for such transfer.
