Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has announced a strategic partnership with local traditional music group, Mafitlhakgosi, in a bid to boost the country’s creative industry. The collaboration was unveiled by BDC Caretaker Managing Director, Oteng Keabetswe, who described it as the beginning of a broader initiative to support creative talent.

“Our interest goes beyond music, it goes through film, to preservation of cultural heritage as well as supporting as many creatives as we can. This is the beginning of our journey as we focus on this sector,” said Keabetswe.

The partnership includes a record deal secured in collaboration with Eric Ramco Records. The deal covers production and distribution across various media platforms, ensuring that Mafitlhakgosi’s music reaches wider audiences both locally and internationally.

Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Tiroeaone Ntsima, highlighted the government’s role in facilitating growth within the creative sector. He noted that government efforts focus on creating an enabling environment through reviewing regulatory frameworks, improving access to markets, strengthening funding mechanisms, and fostering partnerships between the private sector and creative industry.

The collaboration between BDC and Mafitlhakgosi signals a growing recognition of the creative sector’s potential to contribute to Botswana’s economy. It also emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural heritage while providing platforms for local talent to thrive.
