Africa-Press – Botswana. The first Pan-African International Film Festival of Luanda “PAFF 2022” takes place from 24 to 27 November this year, at Fundação Arte e Cultura in Luanda.

The fact was revealed this Monday, at a press conference, held at the Wyza amphitheater of the Fundação Arte e Cultura cultural center, by film producer and director Ne Kunda Nlaba, the day on which the registration process for the films also began. compete in the categories in competition.

The project is authored by the Pan-African Institute of Luanda-Kongo Bizizi Academy, which according to Ne Kunda Nlaba it all started in 2019, but was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“More than a showcase of films, PAFF 2022 aims to be a platform for film production on the continent, with interaction between producers, directors, actors, distributors and other agents of the film industry, with lectures and workshops, as well as the participation of guests nationals and foreigners.

For this first edition, Óscar Micheaux, the first black filmmaker in history, will be honored with the screening of some of his films. With the intention of an annual periodicity, according to the producer in the future, names such as Ousmane Semeble, Spike Lee and other references of African cinema are on the production agenda.

Ne Kunda Nlaba added that around 50 films with African themes and production will be selected and short films (less than 49 minutes) and feature films (more than 50 minutes) are expected, with fiction and documentary stories. Of the categories in dispute, he said, animation and production films in African languages ​​stand out.

The producer highlighted two awards, the Kwanza Award and Kimpa Vita Award, the main one being the one that gathers the highest score in all categories and the second one for films inspired by the stories of African revolutionaries in order to honor the heroic spirit of African leaders. .

PAFF 2022 follows initiatives such as the Burkina-Faso Festival and other African countries, as well as those taking place in Los Angeles, Toronto and other parts of the African diaspora. For the realization, Kongo Bizizi Academy has a partnership with Fundação Arte e Cultura.
