Africa-Press – Botswana. Proving that age is no barrier when talent and commitment are present, 11-year-old Nonofo Reetsang from Molepolole has become a published author. She recently launched her debut novel, The Journey of an 11-year-old Christian girl, during a book-signing ceremony at Miachi Gardens. The event drew writers, village leaders, church members, friends and family.

A Standard 6 student at Emmanuel Adventist Academy, Reetsang explained that her story follows a young girl determined to become a doctor and use her medical skills to help the sick and less privileged. The 63-page book is divided into seven chapters and encourages churches to build homes for the elderly and ill, as well as kindergartens for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The memoir also reflects Reetsang’s observations of her environment, inspiring youth to pursue their dreams while respecting their elders. Her storytelling blends moral lessons with real-life aspirations, making it relatable for young readers and communities alike.

Her work has received significant recognition. At the Botswana Literature Awards, Reetsang won Best Children’s Book (under 12) and Best Young Author. She was also named Best Upcoming Young Author by Dinaletsana Cultural Promotions, highlighting her talent and promise in the literary field.

During her book launch, Reetsang addressed the audience without notes, delivering a heartfelt speech that demonstrated her public speaking skills. She credited her teachers for their role in shaping the book, saying, “My teachers played a massive role in writing this book. They taught us that prayer is a life changer, they taught me to respect and be kind and the compositions they gave us opened my eyes that I can be an author.”

Reetsang also praised her coach, Ntlafatso Keitirile, whose publishing company focuses on Christian literature, saying, “She made this book a reality; it would not have been possible without her help and input.” She thanked her parents, Rejoice and Kaone Reetsang, for their support, noting that balancing schoolwork and writing was not always easy. At one point, her parents asked her to pause the project, concerned it might affect her studies.

Despite the challenges, Reetsang successfully balanced her education with her passion for storytelling, producing an award-winning debut that inspires young readers to dream big. The Journey of an 11-year-old Christian girl now stands as a testament to her talent, faith and determination.
