Africa-Press – Botswana. A company specialized in the exploration and exploitation of diamonds, Lucara Diamond, announced on Wednesday the discovery of a 166-carat type IIa precious stone in the Karowe mine in Botswana.
According to the Canadian-based company, this is its first major breakthrough in 2024.
The diamond is the 328th stone over 100 carats discovered since the company began mining in 2012.
William Lamb, Lucara’s chief executive, said the latest success supports the economic rationale behind the investment in an underground expansion project that will extend the life of the mine until at least 2040.Lucara Diamond owns 100% of the Karowe diamond mine, located in north-central Botswana, approximately 512 kilometers from the capital Gaborone.
