200 Projects Chosen for Botswana Economic Transformation

Africa-Press – Botswana. A total of 200 projects have been selected for development under the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), drawn from more than 6,000 submissions across multiple sectors. The selected projects cover agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, digitalisation, tourism, energy, water, mining, and social development.

Speaking in Gaborone, President Advocate Duma Boko said the selection process was rigorous, with only the most impactful and strategic proposals making the final cut. He explained that the programme aims to fast-track Botswana’s shift toward a more diversified, inclusive, and globally competitive economy.

President Boko highlighted the strong interest from private sector players, social entrepreneurs, innovators, and development partners, both local and international. He said this readiness to collaborate with government reflects growing confidence in Botswana’s development agenda and its potential to stand tall on the global stage.

Agriculture featured prominently in the selected projects. According to the President, bankable initiatives in the sector are set to reduce reliance on imports, promote import substitution, and establish a foundation for export-driven growth. These projects are designed to secure national food supplies while also creating sustainable livelihoods for Batswana.

The President reaffirmed that BETP is not only about launching projects but also about ensuring measurable impact. By targeting high-value sectors and fostering partnerships, the programme seeks to transform Botswana’s economy into one that is diversified, resilient, and capable of providing opportunities for all citizens.

With 200 projects now identified, the focus shifts to execution. President Boko stressed that delivery will determine success and urged all stakeholders to remain accountable and committed to driving the transformation agenda forward.
