Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is scheduled to officially open the 18th ordinary session of the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA) slated for January 29-February 4 in Gaborone.
A Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) press release says the week-long conference will also mark Botswana’s assumption of the CISSA chairmanship through the DIS.
Themed; Food Security, Conflict and Peace in Africa, the conference will bring together Africa’s intelligence and security services to deliberate on the outlined issues, says the release.
It adds that the conference will particularly look at the intersection between conflicts and food security.
The delegates, among them security experts, prominent intellectuals and partners, are also expected to explore different measures necessary to address the alarming food insecurity situation in Africa.
The release says the conference is expected to come up with recommendations on the practical implementation of solutions to Africa’s myriad of security challenges, particularly food insecurity.
Comprising 51 members, CISSA was conceived as a mechanism for dialogue, study, analysis, consulting, concerting and adopting common strategies towards prevalent security challenges among African Union member states’ intelligence and security organs.
