Africa-Press – Botswana. Peter Kesitilwe, a former CEO of the Botswana Gambling Authority, has been named the first CEO of the African iGaming Alliance (AIA).
The AIA was established by BetPawa, Betway, 888Africa, and SportyBet to advance ethical and well-regulated online betting markets throughout Africa.
The organisation seeks to protect consumers, promote fair competition, and assist in developing long-term regulations for the expansion of the sector.As the former CFO and later CEO of Botswana’s national regulator, where he oversaw market expansion and the establishment of responsible gaming frameworks, Kesitilwe brings a wealth of regulatory and financial experience to his new position.
In his first statement as CEO of African iGaming Alliance, Kesitilwe said, “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the AIA’s first CEO. I look forward to working with regulators and policymakers to build a vibrant, sustainable & competitive industry that upholds the highest standards of responsible gambling and consumer protection.”
Support from Industry Leaders and Future Aims
Board members from each founding AIA partner welcomed Kesitilwe’s appointment.
Anthony Prissman, Head of New Markets for Betway Africa, stated: “Peter’s strong regulatory background and leadership experience bring immediate credibility to the AIA. We are excited to work with him to help shape a responsible industry across the continent.”
These views were echoed by Christopher Coyne of 888Africa and Dan Thomson of BetPawa, who emphasised the significance of strong leadership in promoting fair regulation and consumer protection in Africa’s rapidly expanding online gaming industry.
The AIA is a major voice in cross-border cooperation between operators, governments, and regulatory bodies as its member organisations hold licences in more than 20 African nations.
The group seeks to promote growth in a responsible business environment while advancing discussion on tax laws, transparent market oversight, and best practices for responsible gambling.
As the African online gaming markets continue to grow and evolve, Kesitilwe’s appointment formally establishes the AIA leadership structure and places an accomplished regulator at the forefront.
