Apple Maps Launches Web Version to Challenge Google Maps Dominance

Africa-Press – Botswana. Apple has introduced a public beta of Apple Maps on the web, marking a significant step in its efforts to compete directly with Google Maps in the mapping service domain.

The announcement expands access to Apple Maps beyond its traditional iOS ecosystem. It is now accessible via web browsers such as Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad and Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. Initially available in English, Apple plans to add support for more languages, browsers, and platforms in future updates.

The web version of Apple Maps mirrors the functionality of its mobile app counterpart. Users can obtain driving and walking directions, explore curated guides and reviews, and order food directly from Maps place cards. Apple intends to introduce additional features, including the “Look Around” 360-degree panoramic views, to the web version in the coming months.

Developers will also be able to integrate Apple Maps into their applications, enabling users to seamlessly access driving directions and detailed place information.

The launch of Apple Maps on the web marks a significant milestone, twelve years after its initial debut on the iPhone. By expanding its availability, Apple aims to broaden its user base and challenge Google Maps’ longstanding dominance as the primary choice for web-based mapping services.
