ASSOCIATION HOLDS ANNUAL AUCTION EXPO

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Tuli Block Farmers’ Association held its annual auction and expo at Shapane Ranch near Sherwood on May 11. The 12th edition of the auction and expo brought together farmers from across the country.

Aspiring farmers also had the opportunity to see different breeds of cattle, sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits while exhibitors promoted their products and services.

Breeds of cattle on sale included Beefmaster, Charolais, Bonsmara, Red and White Brahman and Limousin as well as breeds of sheep and goats such as Boer goats, Dorper sheep, Kalahari reds and meatmasters. Poultry, rabbits and pigs were also on sale including farm implements.

Exhibitors shared information on their products and services, and there was also plenty to eat and shop at the auction.

The most expensive animal sold was a Limousine bull at P65 000.The treasurer and marketing officer of the association, Ms Manjo Stiglingh said the annual auction has improved as the number of livestock has also increased every year.

She encouraged farmers to participate in the auction and buy quality stock to improve their animals.

She said their aim was to create a flourishing agricultural sector in the Tuli Block area through effective stakeholder engagement and the provision of information services to member.

She said the auction and expo provided a platform for their farmers to exhibit their produce and livestock as well as to ensure national food security.

She said the expo also highlighted a wide range of tourist attractions sites in their area and gave visitors a glimpse of their region’s attractions and accommodation facilities.

She further said the auction injected revenue into their economy and benefited not only livestock farmers but also horticulture farmers, food and craft vendors, tourism operators and stallholders showcasing their products and services.

Mr Biki Rammutla, who participated in the auction, said he was happy to have sold 12 of his Boer and Kalahari Red goats at satisfactory prices.

Mr Moseki Lesotlo said it was his first time to attend the auction and expo and was impressed by commercial farmers.
