Africa-Press – Botswana. Kgosi Kgari III has thanked Bakwena who attended the Independence Day celebrations at the Ntsweng heritage.

Addressing the gathering, Kgosi Kgari III emphasised the importance of each individual’s contribution to the progress and prosperity of the country.

He encouraged Bakwena to reflect on the challenges they faced and the accomplishments they achieved, both as a nation and as individuals, and to celebrate the successes that have been made since Botswana’s independence 58 years ago.

Kgosi Kgari III further implored Bakwena to observe the independence holidays with the utmost responsibility and decorum.

He urged them to maintain a sense of pride and dignity as they commemorated the nation’s history and cherished its rich heritage.

The chairperson of Balekane ba Botswana committee, Ms Botsalo Rabogadi said the committee, comprised of individuals born in 1966, and one of the committee’s goals was to promote and preserve Botswana’s rich culture and heritage, while also engaging in charitable initiatives throughout the nation.

Ms Rabogadi highlighted their previous philanthropic efforts at Mokgenene Primary School and their most recent support of Naledi Senior Secondary School.

However, a sense of sobriety was brought to the proceedings by Assistant Superintendent Ruben Ramoleele, who shared his concerns regarding the spate of recent murders in their policing area.

Despite the festivities of Independence Day, he said six tragic deaths had occurred in September alone, four of which took place at entertainment venues and two at private homes.

Asst. Supt. Ramoleele expressed his dismay at the alarming frequency with which misunderstandings between lovers were escalating into violent confrontations, leading to fatal consequences.

Turning his attention to another pressing issue, Asst. Sup Ramoleele expressed concern over the alarming rate of accidents in the area, which had claimed seven lives and left 15 individuals with serious injuries since January.

He cautioned young drivers in particular to exercise caution and responsibility behind the wheel, urging everyone to prioritise safety on the roads, imploring them to consider the devastating consequences that recklessness and negligence can have on themselves, their families, and the community.
