Africa-Press – Botswana. Among scores of people who gathered at the Okavango River Bridge on Saturday to witness the monumental official opening of the Mohembo bridge were boys from Bana ba Metsi boarding school.
Bana Ba Metsi is a boys school in Sekanduke, about 40 kilometers from Mohembo between Ngarange and Mogotlho, which enrols boys from risky and vulnerable background aged between 10 to 15 years.
The boys took a day off to enjoy the eventful bridge opening; as many of them got to realise their dreams of meeting President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi and Cabinet ministers.
In an interview with BOPA, 13-year-old Setso Tsalaile expressed his joy to have witnessed the official opening of the bridge with his classmates and friends.
He highlighted that was a day he would never forget, of which he planned to write a story about to share his experience of the event.
Above everything, young Setso said the new bridge had brought change, in the sense that they were rest assured to never miss classes due breakdowns of pontoon.
The Moshupa-born learner, said the bridge had ignited a spark in him to start drawing and creating magnificent things.
Another pupil, 15-year-old Bothwell Gasethaselwe could not hide his excitement of having witness the momentous occasion.
“I was happy to see President Masisi today because to meet a President is very special,” he said.
He stated that English, Setswana and Social Studies were his favourite subjects because he excelled in them.
Bothwell like his schoolmate said the Okavango River crossing was a wonderful development as it meant they would not miss any lessons.
He highlighted that the day meant a lot for them as they interacted with many people who were not from their school.
