Africa-Press – Botswana. Banks are continuously educating customers on the secure use of point of sale (POS) machines to further improve data privacy and security, Minister of Entrepreneurship, Mr Karabo Gare has said.
Mr Gare who was responding to a Parliamentary question, said banks gave customers the option to update their pin on a regular basis to further enhance data privacy and security.
He said banks allowed customers using credit cards to freeze and unfreeze their pin on the mobile application if they felt unsecure.
The minister also encouraged customers to notify the bank of any card loss or if they noticed any suspicious transactions taking place in their account, to memorise their pin codes and not to keep records of their pin codes with them or near the card.
Gaborone Central MP, Mr Tumisang Mangwegape-Healy had asked the minister to clarity on the security of POS machines and how the machines required a pin but without the added security.
