Africa-Press – Botswana. Kagelelo Banks Kentse has officially tendered his resignation as Chairman of the Botswana Democratic Party’s (BDP) Communication and International Relations sub-committee.
Sources say Kentse submitted his resignation letter to BDP president Mokgweetsi Masisi last week along with suggestions for potential successors.
Masisi, now fully immersed in party work at Tsholetsa House in Gaborone, is reportedly deliberating on the names to ensure that a suitable candidate assumes leadership of the critical sub-committee.
Since 2018
Kentse has led the sub-committee since 2018, a tenure marked by both successes and challenges. He has faced criticism in the aftermath of the BDP’s loss in the recent general elections, with some pointing to poor communication strategies as a contributing factor.
Speculation is rife that the Moshupa-born politician is looking to elevate his political profile. To that end, reports are suggesting that he has his eyes on the position of Deputy Secretary General at the party’s upcoming elective congress.
Masisi’s nod
Although he has yet to confirm his intentions, it is said he is likely to receive the backing of Masisi at the July congress.
While Kentse has declined to comment on his resignation, sources within the party say it is only a matter of time before Masisi announces the new leadership of the sub-committee.
