Africa-Press – Botswana. Former Batawana regent, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi has been described as a true leader who served the Ngamiland community with respect and dignity.

A group of Batawana women made the remarks during Mother’s Day at Parkview lodge in recognition and appreciation of the role Kgosi Moremi played during her tenure as Batawana regent.

She was installed as regent in 2004, after the Batawana Kgosi, Kgosi Tawana II joined active politics in 2003. Kgosi Moremi held fort until April this year when Kgosi Tawana II took over the chieftainship reigns following his resignation from politics in 2019.

Those who spoke at the event described her as a phenomenal, a loving mother, good leader who treated all people equal and with respect.

They said she made Batawana proud throughout her commitment in developing the region and striving for excellence to ensure bogosi remained vibrant and essential for orderly governance. Through her calmness, hard work, tolerance and intelligence, they said she advanced tribal issues well and wished her well in her future endeavors.

One of her friends, Ms Wendy Isaacs-Mookodi said Kgosi Moremi deserved a pat on the back as she had demonstrated that women were also capable to ascend to chieftainship positions, citing the likes of Kgosi Mosadi Seboko who is the paramount chief of Balete whom she said presented herself as a legitimate candidate to claim the throne amongst the royals.

Ms Isaacs-Mookodi said Bogosi was dominated by males and appreciated that some women had defied the odds and were now taking up leadership positions.

“We are proud of you Mmaarona, you have laid a strong legacy hence we decided to salute you on Mother’s day to express our love, respect and gratitude towards you,” she added.

Ms Isaacs-Mookodi said Kgosi Moremi was special like any other mothers because of their sacrifices and value they place on their children. Mothers work hard to provide a conducive environments for their children to nourish, she added.

Another speaker, Ms Pearl Markus also appreciated that Kgosi Kealetile led her tribe wholeheartedly with love, noting that she was passionate about her work and had excellent relations with everyone.

She described her as a reserved person who was highly respected and wanted see people happy.

Kgosi Moremi’s daughter, Ms Kealeboga Mosinyi thanked her mother for the love and the guidance, citing that she taught her morals and values of botho.

She described her as an embodiment of her life, noting that she stood by her even during difficult situation. She also thanked her mother for executing her assignment of leading Batawana tribe with dignity and respect.

For her part, Kgosi Moremi thanked Batawana women for the surprise ceremony which was also graced by Ms Goitseone Moremi, the former wife to Kgosi Tawana II.

The ceremony, she said indeed made people remember the importance and significance of mothers in their life and thanked all for appreciating motherly figures around the world.

“I am humbled by your love and I urge you to continue shining towards your families and teach your children the morals and values so that they grow into responsible citizens,” she added.

Kgosi Moremi said that today’s children were lost and needed as much guidance as they could get, both from families and the society, adding that they faced social ills such as drug and alcohol abuse unlike the older generation in whom the principles were inculcated by parents.

She also thanked Batawana royals for the support and motivation they gave her during her tenure in office.
