Africa-Press – Botswana. As a way of reintroducing itself to Batswana, Botswana Council of Churches (BCC) will hold week-long activities around Gaborone themed, God in the City June 5-11.

The activities are meant to awaken the public to the services offered by the council.

Speaking during a media briefing yesterday, BCC vice president responsible for youth and children, Mr Tswelelang Maswabi said a variety of programmes and projects under different member churches would be on offer.

Member churches would showcase their projects around the city throughout the week, he explained.

Mr Maswabi said the idea was to help target groups introspect as well as celebrate achievements made, he said.

The official opening is scheduled for the Three Dikgosi Monument with events billed for different parts of the city such as Old Naledi, Block 8, Rail Park Mall.

The week would be wrapped up with a walk that would end at Parliament buildings, said Mr Maswabi.

He encouraged the public to participate in the celebrations saying it would be time to pray for peace, healing and reconciliation.

BCC liaison officer, Reverend Thabo Mampane said invitations had been extended to other faiths such as Islam, Bahai and Bhuddist because they were also part of the community.

He said BCC was an all-denomination overarching body with membership inclusive of organisations such as Ditshwanelo, Kgolagano College and Young Women’s Christian Association.
