Africa-Press – Botswana. General Mpho Mophuting has officially assumed command of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF), pledging to lead a modern, disciplined, and people-focused military. He took over the leadership at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks, addressing military personnel and reaffirming his commitment to Botswana’s peace, sovereignty, and democratic values.
In his first address as Commander, General Mophuting said he accepted the role with humility and a strong sense of duty. He outlined a clear agenda for his tenure, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership within the ranks, modernisation of defence capabilities, and prioritising the welfare of soldiers. He also committed to reforming the military justice system to ensure fairness and to develop a comprehensive strategy and doctrine for the BDF.
The new Commander highlighted the need for responsible financial management, stressing that efficiency and readiness are critical for mission success. He also underlined the importance of cooperation with other national security agencies and international partners to strengthen both domestic security and regional peace initiatives.
General Mophuting assured citizens that the BDF would remain a steadfast shield for the nation, prepared to respond to any security challenges while upholding professionalism, discipline, and accountability. His leadership marks a renewed focus on modernisation, strategic planning, and a people-centred approach that balances operational readiness with soldier welfare.
Under his command, the BDF aims to build a more agile, capable, and resilient force that can effectively protect Botswana while contributing to broader regional stability and peacekeeping efforts.
