Africa-Press – Botswana. The leader of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi on Friday led the party’s annual fundraising golf day.
The event, which was held at the Gaborone Golf Club brought together party leadership, activists and business community on a networking course.
BDP Secretary General, Mr Kavis Kario said in an interview that the event was amongst others used to recruit new members and to prepare for general elections expected to be held in October.
He explained that the golf day was a recruitment strategy, as through interactions and networking, some participants would get to know the party better.
Mr Kario said President Dr Masisi and Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane’s attendance was to show support to sport, network with the business community as well as to support party activists who organised the event.
The BDP secretary general said the party belonged to all members of the society.
He said BDP was wrapping up preparations for the upcoming primary elections, adding that the party was very close to calling a date for primary elections.
Therefore, he pleaded with party members to be patient as vetting and preparation processes were nearing the end.
Furthermore, Mr Kario implored Batswana to trust the ruling party ahead of the general elections.
He said the party under the leadership of President Dr Masisi had proved its worth.
He said President Masisi had through his leadership proved that he had passion, energy, policies and programmes to improve the lives of Batswana.
Meanwhile, about 140 golfers participated in the event that preceded the party’s 2024 gala dinner.
