Africa-Press – Botswana. Time management means a commitment and individual’s self-respect.

Speaking during Masunga Office of the District Commissioner’s mini retreat that was organised for staff to appreciate the 2024/2025 Annual Performance Plan (APP) achievements, North East District commissioner Ms Wame Samapipi said for better time management, every officer had to own their space and know their responsibilities. Ms Samapipi advised officers to make decisions and recommendations in line with their own space in the departments/sections they were assigned or seconded to.

“That would mean understanding the mandate, the processes and everything that dictates how that work should be prepared,” she said, adding that many found themselves reporting for duty everyday not knowing what they were expected to do.

She therefore reminded the employees of the Reset Agenda, which had five pillars, one of which was the Mindset Change. The District Commissioner said the Mindset Change allowed all employees and the community to change the way they had been doing things, the way they saw things, saying for one to achieve that, they would have to pause, restart and to improve through the principle of growth mindset.

In motivating the participants of the retreat, Performance Improvement Coordinator at Tati Land Board, Ms Tshepho Ramojadife encouraged departments and employees to work hard to deliver their mandates.

“Let the past performance (non-performance) not cloud the positive intentions towards the financial year 2025/26 in delivering the prescribed mandate,” Ms Ramojadife advised.

She encouraged them to devise smart plans, ensure implementation and try by all means to work on all initiatives. She encouraged constant feedback and constant acknowledgement of employees who outperform themselves and for supervisors to give credit where it was due.
