Africa-Press – Botswana. Residents of Toromoja and Xhumo have been urged to be realistic when deliberating on issues of national interest.
Addressing kgotla meetings in Toromoja and Xhumo on Friday, Vice President Slumber Tsogwane advised the youth to demonstrate leadership when deliberating development-related issues and not to mislead the elderly.
He said unrest and chaos in other countries were caused by lack of responsible and reliable leadership.
As an accountable and responsible government, the national leadership could not give people information that was not realistic or true, he stated.
Responding to some questions, Mr Tsogwane said the proposal to allocate each Motswana five plots was not practical since there were many who did not have even a single one.
Letlhakane, he said, could not be converted into a town in order to give people an opportunity to apply for plots in the village.
Turning the village into a town would deny residents access to land, he said.
Mr Tsogwane advised farmers aggrieved by the perceived unfair pricing of zero tooth cattle to suspend selling them and to instead wait for the reopening of the Botswana Meat Commission abattoir in Maun.
The vice president said he was aware that the Toromoja-Rakops road needed to be constructed adding that road infrastructure was a national priority.
He explained that the road would require a bridge and would therefore be a costly undertaking.
In the meantime, residents should appreciate that there was a tarred road connecting Toromoja to the main road, he said.
Mr Molateng Balone had called for re-gravelling of the road connecting Toromoja to Rakops while fellow resident Ms Masedi Lefeletse wanted to know why the road was not included in the Constituency Community Projects budget.
