Africa-Press – Botswana. Betesankwe residents have been assured that the project to tar the road linking their village to the Kanye-Jwaneng highway is still on the cards.
Kanye South Member of Parliament, Dr Lemogang Kwape made the assurance when addressing a kgotla meeting in the village recently.
Dr Kwape was responding to a concern from the Village Development Committee (VDC) about the delay of the project.
He said preparations were ongoing, as such the project would eventually start.
“There are technical preparations that are still ongoing.
The tarred road will connect to the kgotla.
There are future plans to link the clinic and the primary school to the road as well,” he said.
Concerning construction works at the village health post, Dr Kwape expressed disappointment about the delay, which he said was caused by the contractor.
He however said he was informed that construction works would be completed next month.
He said the health post would have two nurses.
Dr Kwape further said a staff room and a kitchen would be built at Betesankwe Primary School once funds were available.
Betesankwe VDC chairperson Ms Ratanang Ramoleele, had asked for feedback about tarring of the sand road, which was a few kilometres long, branching from the Kanye- Jwaneng highway.
He said they were promised that the project would commence this month.
She also complained about delay in availing of a nurse in the village.

Ms Ramoleele also complained about delay in drilling of a borehole for the village.
She also requested for construction of a kitchen and staff room at the village primary school.
She said the school was using a caravan as staff room.
She said teachers houses and classrooms required maintenance as well.
She also asked for provision of a police officer for Betesankwe Customary Court, pleaded for funds to construct more VDC houses and a day care centre.
The VDC chairperson expressed thanks for connection of electricity to VDC houses and the health facility.
She also thanked government for having constructed more destitute houses in the village.
