Africa-Press – Botswana. President Advocate Duma Boko’s visit to Moletemane Primary School in the Bobirwa District will forever be etched in the memories of learners and staff members.

The Friday visit signified the importance President Boko attaches to educating, nurturing young minds and promoting efforts focused on building a bright future.

With enthusiasm and a connection he has to young learners, President Boko emphasised the transformative power of literature and learning.

He stated that developing the love for reading presented boundless opportunities, adding that books unlocked the doors to knowledge and creativity and that reading should not be a school activity only, but a lifelong habit.

President Boko pledged to donate 1 000 short storybooks to the school, to ignite and enhance literacy among learners and also walk the talk of encouraging the young ones to embrace reading.

He also promised tablets for all learners at Moletemane Primary School, to enrich learners’ educational experience and demonstrate the importance of digital learning in today’s world.

“Learners must be provided with tools to navigate digitalisation. The tablets will position them well for innovation and enable digitalised classes that can help them engage academically while in different locations,” said President Boko.

He requested learners to shun bullying, a problem that affected many schools across the country and was linked to broader societal issues of gender-based violence, calling for an increased awareness against bullying in educational environments.

“Bullying is not just a childhood issue, it is a seed of deeper societal problems. It can lead to serious consequences, including gender-based violence, which continues to hinder the progress of many communities,” said President Boko.

Instead, he encouraged a culture of open dialogue, respect and kindness among learners, urging them to extend this attitude to their teachers and parents outside of school.

Moletemane Primary School head, Ms Tsapelo Ndawanyana, expressed the heartfelt gratitude for President Boko’s pledges, which would address some of the school needs.

She also mentioned that his visit brought hope and inspiration to learners and the school staff.

Ms Ndawanyana was also happy for the donations from various businesses in Moletemane, noting that they improved the overall wellbeing of learners and inspired them to strive for better academic results.

She mentioned that the school enrolled more than 600 pupils, and was faced with a shortage of classrooms though teachers were unrelenting in their pursuit of good academic results.

The visit concluded with President Boko taking pictures with pupils, to capture the memories that the community will treasure forever, as learners beamed with pride while standing next to a national figure who dares them to believe in their capabilities.
