Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Nurses Union (BONU) has called on Kanye College of Nursing to pay outstanding salaries of their members by the end of January 2024. A press release from BONU says the college has failed to pay salaries of nurse lecturers and other staff members since September last year, despite continuous engagement with its management.
The release states that the college has also failed to honour the salary increment agreement for financial 2022/23/24.
It says BONU has on several occasions met with the college and a settlement agreement entered into between the employer party and union party but nothing has been done so far and that shows lack of respect by the college management.
“As BONU we shall not rest until our members are paid and believe the college will pay before end of January. Failure to pay shall leave us with no option but to seek legal intervention to force the college to pay,” the release says.
It also says the two parties signed a collective labour agreement at Kanye labour office on November 23 last year, where the college was to pay by December 1 last year.
BONU therefore reminds the college management that failure to honour employment contract or collective labour agreement signed by both parties is an offence liable to penalties as prescribed by the Employment Act. Meanwhile, BONU has assured its members that the impasse will be dealt with accordingly and remain hopeful that the college management will stop violating the employment contracts.
