Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana and Zambia have passed a resolution to commission the Kazungula Bridge Authority (KBA), which will officially begin operations on October 15 in Kasane. The authority will manage and maintain the Kazungula Bridge and its surrounding infrastructure, ensuring smooth movement of goods and people between the two countries.
The announcement was made by Botswana’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Noah Salakae, and his Zambian counterpart, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Charles Milupi. The declaration came during the Joint Ministerial Committee Meeting of the Kazungula Bridge project held in Kasane.
The KBA will play a central role in overseeing the bridge’s operations, maintenance, and safety protocols. It aims to streamline cross-border transport, reduce delays, and support trade growth in the region. Officials highlighted that the bridge is a critical link in the Southern African transport network, connecting Botswana, Zambia, and other regional markets.
The launch of the Kazungula Bridge Authority marks a key step in ensuring the bridge operates efficiently and supports economic development on both sides of the border. Both governments emphasized collaboration and sustainable management as priorities for the authority.
