Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana and Angola are fully committed to fostering the bilateral relations between the two countries and expand on existing areas of cooperation.

This was said by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Lemogang Kwape in an interview following a meeting between President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi and Angola’s Minister of External Relations and special envoy, Mr Tete Antonia on December 21.

Dr Kwape said the two countries were also keen on making progress in the implementation of some framework agreements and proposals discussed during the recent state visit by Angola President, Mr João Manuel Gonçalves.

“Following Angola President’s state visit to Botswana, it is only befitting for the two countries to frequently meet and make follow up on certain topics discussed during the state visit, particularly with respect to Botswana’s interest in investing in an oil refinery project in Angola as well as the repatriation of the 8 000 elephants that Botswana has donated to Angola,” Minister Kwape said.

Again, he said there was potential to extend the scope of bilateral trade and partnerships in various sectors as both the countries aimed to capitalise on the existing strong diplomatic and bilateral relations they shared.

He further said the Angolan special envoy’s meeting with President Masisi was therefore important because it presented a perfect platform for the two countries to appreciate the bilateral ties and establish possible ways to nurture them to improve lives of citizens.
