Africa-Press – Botswana. Government has reaffirmed its commitment to position Botswana as a premier destination of choice for travellers across the globe.

Officiating at Botswana Travel and Tourism Expo (BTTE) on Kasane recently, Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi said Botswana tourism continued to gather recognition globally because of the country’s sustainable tourism practices.

“It is important that we collectively strengthen Botswana’s image to appeal to the global market and understand and meet the needs of travellers.”

Mr Mmolotsi underscored government’s committment to remove impediments of travelling to Botswana to ensure the country was accessible to the rest of the world.

He said BTTE was an opportunity to foster partnership, strengthen existing ones and sign deals for the next travel season.

Mr Mmolotsi said it was imperative to highlight diverse tourism products offered in Botswana.

“There is so much to explore in Botswana, be it cultural, wildlife, lifestyle or ecotourism and you need to create new innovative products that suit the modern market.” Furthermore, he said government was dedicated to promoting inclusive, equitable and accessible tourism that was respectful to people.

He thanked Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), and the tourism industry for their efforts to serve the country and promote Botswana to the world.

For her part, BTO board chairperson, Ms Lorato Kwelagobe said the expo was the right place for tour operators, buyers, and exhibitors to collaborate and advance the tourism agenda.

She said tourism was a force to transform economic growth hence advocated for businesses to adopt sustainable environment practices in their operations.

“Embed sustainable environment in your business strategies in order to build a sustainable Botswana.”

Ms Kwelagobe said tourism market was looking for innovation hence encouraged businesses to pin innovation at the centre of their businesses.

She reiterated that the BTTE was an opportunity to build a robust tourism sector and take Botswana tourism brand globally.

MP for Chobe, Mr Simasiku Mapulanga said Chobe District supported strategies aimed at driving tourism sector and had created opportunities that promoted economic growth.

He said it was essential for the tourism sector to remain dynamic and resilient in changing times so as to cater for today’s travelers.

He congratulated Minister Mmolotsi in his new portfolio as the minister of Environment and Tourism and thanked BTO for making Chobe home to BTTE over the years.
