Africa-Press – Botswana. Two young Botswana entrepreneurs, Ms. Barulaganyi Gaogane and Ms. Bengingazi Sibanda, have completed the African Women Entrepreneurship Empowerment Project Workshop in Beijing. Both women are beneficiaries of the Youth Development Fund (YDF) and represent the growing wave of female-led innovation in Botswana’s business landscape.
Ms. Gaogane, a fashion design specialist, has built a reputation for creating garments that blend modern style with local cultural elements. Her designs celebrate Botswana’s identity while meeting international fashion standards. Ms. Sibanda, on the other hand, runs a canvas tent and furniture business known for its creativity and craftsmanship. Her work supports local tourism operators and event planners who rely on durable, high-quality materials.
The workshop, hosted in Beijing, is part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between China and Africa. Its focus is on gender equality, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Participants from various African countries took part in training sessions that covered business management, innovation, digital marketing, and sustainable enterprise development.
For Gaogane and Sibanda, the experience has opened new opportunities. They gained fresh perspectives on product development, market expansion, and business leadership. The program emphasized the importance of building sustainable enterprises that create jobs and contribute to national economies.
Ms. Gaogane shared that the training inspired her to integrate technology into her fashion design process. She plans to explore e-commerce platforms to expand her reach beyond Botswana. Ms. Sibanda said the workshop gave her practical ideas on improving production efficiency and introducing environmentally friendly materials into her furniture designs.
The Youth Development Fund continues to play a key role in supporting young Batswana entrepreneurs. By investing in projects like this, the government empowers youth to contribute to economic growth and reduce unemployment.
The success of these two women demonstrates how international collaboration can drive skills development and innovation. Their achievements are expected to motivate other young entrepreneurs across Botswana to pursue growth opportunities and embrace global partnerships.
Through initiatives like the African Women Entrepreneurship Empowerment Project, more women across Africa are gaining the tools they need to lead, innovate, and transform their communities.
