Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana and eSwatini men and ladies national netball teams faced off in a two-day test series tournament held in Jwaneng over the weekend. The friendly matches formed part of the teams’ preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup in December.
Saturday’s opening fixtures set the pace for a competitive series. eSwatini men outclassed Botswana men with a 52-32 win before defeating Botswana ladies 49-27 in a mixed test. Botswana ladies, however, delivered a strong performance to beat eSwatini ladies 46-33 in their first match.
Sunday saw more intense action. Botswana men beat Botswana ladies 38-23 in the opening game of the day but later fell short against eSwatini men, losing 57-40. The final clash of the tournament produced the closest contest of the weekend, with Botswana ladies edging out eSwatini ladies 43-39 in a tightly fought match.
Botswana Netball Association president, Mpopi Moatlhodi, applauded the teams for their effort but emphasized the need for greater support as they continue preparing for the Africa Cup. “The players are showing potential, but we need to strengthen preparations through more tournaments, resources, and exposure,” Moatlhodi said.
The Jwaneng test series gave both nations valuable match experience and highlighted areas for improvement ahead of the continental competition. With the Africa Cup drawing closer, Botswana and eSwatini will be looking to build on these performances and fine-tune their squads for the December showdown.
