Africa-Press – Botswana. The Botswana Gambling Authority (BGA) held a staff training session on September 1, 2025, focused on addressing bullying and sexual harassment in the workplace. The event, part of the Authority’s ongoing “Motshameko O Phepa” initiative, was designed to foster a culture of mutual respect and equip employees with tools to prevent and handle such issues effectively.
Held at Authority‘s headquarters in Gaborone, the workshop was led by Dr. Morekwe Selemogwe-Matsetse, a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist with more than 15 years of experience, and the founding chairperson of the Botswana Association of Addiction Professionals.
Approximately 40 to 50 staff members attended the comprehensive training, which included presentations and group activities focused on identifying harassment, intervention strategies and building supportive environments. It gave participants a platform to share experiences and provide feedback on improving organisational ethics.
The training underscores the BGA’s commitment to employee well-being, as expressed in an official release: “This initiative is crucial because a positive work culture is built on the foundation of mutual respect. By equipping our team with the necessary knowledge and tools, we are actively working to prevent harassment and ensure every individual feels supported and valued.”
By investing in these programs, the BGA promotes internal efficiency and demonstrates best practices for the industry. Licensed operators may draw inspiration to implement similar training, promoting ethical standards across the industry.
The Gambling Authority recently won the award of the best parastatal regulator in the 2025 Botswana consumer fair, a proof of its oversight excellence and commitment to consumer protection.
