Africa-Press – Botswana. Thursday marked a special moment for Botswana as African Agriculture honored Olympic Gold Medalist Letsile Tebogo with a brand-new BHero tractor. The gesture recognized Tebogo’s remarkable achievement at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and celebrated his contribution to national pride.
The handover ceremony took place with the presence of the Acting Minister of Sport and Arts, Honorable Bogolo Kenewendo, alongside delegations from the Ministry of Sport and Arts (MoSA) and the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC).
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Freddy Manganaatau emphasized the symbolism of the BHero tractor. Assembled in Botswana, the tractor helps farmers increase productivity while reducing costs. He described it as a fitting gift for a national hero who has elevated the country’s spirit. He added that the tractor would support Tebogo’s farming pursuits and inspire young people to strive for excellence.
Minister Bogolo Kenewendo delivered the keynote address, lauding Tebogo as both a champion and a national role model. She highlighted that Tebogo, 2024 Paris Olympic gold medalist and De Beers Group global brand ambassador, demonstrates that effort, discipline, and resilience can lead to global success. She explained that the homegrown BHero tractor represents Botswana’s future, independence, youth empowerment, and national development vision.
The Minister praised African Agriculture’s initiative as a strong example of private sector support for national heroes. She encouraged other companies to provide backing during athletes’ preparation phases, not only after major victories. She expressed hope that the tractor would serve as “a seed that grows into opportunities for Tebogo and his family” and encouraged him to continue being a Botswana hero ahead of the 2026 World Relays in Gaborone.
Closing the ceremony, BNSC Chairperson Marumo Morule expressed appreciation for the private sector’s recognition of Tebogo. He hoped the tractor would help Tebogo produce more food and encouraged African Agriculture to continue supporting national athletes.
The event celebrated both Tebogo’s sporting excellence and the role of local initiatives in empowering heroes. Botswana now looks forward to seeing the impact of this symbolic gift on Tebogo’s farm and the inspiration it brings to future generations.
Congratulations to Letsile Tebogo! May the BHero tractor bring success and growth to your fields.
