Africa-Press – Botswana. The Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs recently hosted the Southern African Youth Development Council (SAYDC) conference, reinforcing Botswana’s growing role in Pan-African youth empowerment. The event, held in partnership with SAYDC and Intercontinental Youth Connect (IYC), brought together young leaders from across the continent to showcase innovation, leadership, and diplomatic engagement.
For the first time, youth delegates from Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo joined their SADC counterparts, positioning Botswana as a central hub for youth dialogue and continental cooperation. The conference served as a platform for sharing ideas, best practices, and strategies for sustainable youth development in alignment with regional and national priorities.
A highlight of the event was the launch of the Botswana Chapter of the International African Youth Forum for African Development (FIJADA). The platform empowers young leaders to shape Africa’s development narrative through structured engagement, policy advocacy, and grassroots innovation. FIJADA’s launch underscores Botswana’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of African leaders.
The conference reinforced Botswana’s alignment with SADC Vision 2050, the RISDP 2020–2030, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and the country’s Vision 2036. These frameworks guide structured youth participation in governance, economic development, and regional integration.
Batswana delegates achieved notable recognition during the conference. Ms. Boniswa Bayani earned Best Oral Presentation and Best Female Delegate at SAYDC 2025, while Ms. Ludo Grace Chinga was named Best Overall Participating Delegate at the SADC Conference 2025. Their accomplishments reflect Botswana’s commitment to institutionalizing youth leadership and continental development initiatives.
The successful conference highlights the importance of investing in young leaders who are actively shaping Botswana’s future and Africa’s broader development. By fostering platforms for engagement, innovation, and collaboration, Botswana continues to establish itself as a continental leader in youth-led development.
