Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana is Estonia’s important partner in political dialogue, business diplomacy and development cooperation.
This was revealed by President of Estonia, Mr Alar Karis during President Duma Boko’s State Visit in Estonia.
President Karis said the two countries were united by a strong belief in democracy and a world order based on rules. “Estonia’s focus is on supporting Botswana’s digital transition. Estonia aims to improve Botswana’s business climate, digital services, data protection and cyber security, as well as develop the country’s start-up ecosystem and e-government services,” President Karis said.
He expressed delight over Estonian companies’ desire in developing cooperation with Botswana partners in the field of digital technologies adding that the government of Estonia was prepared to share the experience of its digital state in order to jointly promote innovation.
He further acknowledged President Boko’s visit citing that it had created a platform to discuss the economic and educational cooperation between the two countries as well as ways of strengthening cooperation in international organisations and the international security.
He indicated that strides were also made on discussions around collaboration on digitalisation and the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.
He noted that the contribution of Estonian companies in assisting Botswana was gaining momentum through regional Team Europe initiatives, ESTDEV, which continued to assist Botswana on building its digital capabilities and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship.
President Boko’s visit to Estonia is even more symbolic, as he is the first African Head of State to pay a state visit to the country.
