Africa-Press – Botswana. Government welcomes investors who wish to assist the country in reaching its target of quality life by 2036.
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi expressed the sentiments during a courtesy call by CISCO Systems officials in Gaborone yesterday.
He noted that Botswana was propelled by its well-defined vision to explore opportunities of opening more trade routes with other nations.
In that regard, President Masisi welcomed the ideals of CISCO Systems, which he said were aligned to driving a knowledge-based society and urged the company to partner with local innovators to create opportunities.
CISCO Systems is an American-based multinational digital communications technology conglomerate corporation that specialises in manufacturing and selling networking hardware, software telecommunications equipment and high technology services and products.
“We are in a hurry. We must make up for the lost time. We want to do the most we can in the shortest possible time for our people,” President Masisi said.
CISCO Systems executive vice president Ms Francine Katsoudas said the company was engaged in more than 16 000 projects across the globe in among others smart agriculture, mining, water usage and cyber security.
Ms Katsoudas said they were determined to bring to the world the latest technology and appropriate resources.
CISCO Systems is currently working with four countries in Africa and Ms Katsoudas expressed hope that Botswana would be the fifth.
“The company will bring to the country projects that will yield timely and innovative results. We look at all things digital by bringing people closer to technology and therefore government must be at the lead,” she said.
