BOTSWANA POLICE SERVICE RECEIVES NEW AIRCRAFT

Africa-Press – Botswana. New Botswana Police Service aircraft will enhance the police mandate of ensuring the safety and security of the people of Botswana as well as assist in attending to some of the regional operations, Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi has said.

Speaking at an event to unveil the aircraft, which was graced by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, at Sir Seretse Khama International airport today, Minister Mmusi said the aircraft was another way of stepping up the police force’s aerial capabilities in the fight against crime.

Valued at P130 million and with a carrying capacity of 12 passengers excluding the cabin crew, the new aircraft will add to the police air support unit and will supplement the existing fleet that includes a variety of light utility helicopters.

For his part, acting Botswana Police Service Commissioner, Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane said the air support unit had since its establishment improved the effectiveness of crime prevention.

He expressed optimism that the new aircraft would enable the police to respond timely to the needs of the community.

Mr Ramakorwane commended government for continuously equipping the police to be more effective and responsive.
