Africa-Press – Botswana. The official visit to Botswana by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Mr Philip Davis is hailed as a strategic move to strengthen ties and advance areas of interest between the two countries.

Welcoming Mr Davis during official talks at the Office of the President on March 18, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said during his visit to The Bahamas, a wide range of issues were discussed with the view to bring the two countries closer together.

He said the return visit by Mr Davis was an opportunity to take their discussions further.

Meanwhile, Mr Davis, who was equally delighted by the visit, concurred with President Masisi that the objective of the official visit was to explore opportunities for mutual benefit.

Mr Davis said he was aware that Botswana was currently, through the SmartBots initiative, engaged in a massive process to improve Internet connectivity and accessibility.

Therefore, Mr Davis said since The Bahamas had invested much on the digitisation drive, it would be handy in advancing Botswana’s aspirations of improving its economy through the use of modern technology.

He added that other areas that the two countries were to possibly collaborate on were in, among others, wildlife conservation, education, information and communications technology as well as skills transfer.

Mr Davis added that the corporation between the two nations must also encourage partnerships of various organisations.

He emphasised that it was equally important for the people of the two nations to venture into areas of potential investment, adding that the visit was also going to look into signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the countries’ central banks.
