Africa-Press – Botswana. The chairperson of the Mpumalanga House of Traditional Leaders, Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena, Khoisan leaders and the national president of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa received the Botswana’s Ntlo ya Dikgosi (House of Chiefs) delegation on a two-day visit on Monday February 12.The aim of the visit was to exchange views, to learn best practices from one another and to view the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature’s chambers, as the House of Chiefs is in the process of building its own.

Some of the topics discussed include experiences on how each house deals with disputes, how pensions are administered for traditional leaders, funding and many others.Mokoena, who was chairing the session, welcomed the delegation and all attendees. He encouraged them to make Mpumalanga their preferred tourism destination of choice even after the current visit. He also outlined how Mpumalanga’s traditional and Khoisan leaders operate, how they are structured and funded, and their mandate in full.Kgosi Puso Gaborone, the chairperson of Ntlo ya Dikgosi, said they appreciated Mpumalanga hosting the delegation. He said they are currently using the Parliament Building, which is small. “The House of Chiefs in Botswana is scheduled to get its own building and is exploring state-of-the-art buildings, the best of the best, like Endumbeni [Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature’s chambers] for inspiration.”

During this visit, gifts were exchanged and a tour of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature and chambers was conducted.
