Africa-Press – Botswana. The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) leader, also Member of Parliament for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Mephato Reatile, on Tuesday welcomed new party members into the BPF fold in Gaborone.
The new members are former Member of Parliament for Molepolole South, Dr Tlamelo Mmatli, retired Lt Gen. Gaolathe Galebotswe, former Kgatleng District Council Chairperson, Mr Tona Mooketsi and the only lady among them, Ms Naledi Monnakgosi.
Mr Reatile said the new members decided to move after consultations with their legions of followers, which they brought along.
He said the new members are from various political parties and had found it fit to join the BPF. He also said some of the new members were still in council office in the various district councils.
Mr Reatile said they were not at war with any opposition political party and none owned BPF, a spirit he said they had to adopt and carry forward.
He also said all the opposition political parties are against the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
Concerning the party manifesto, Mr Reatile said it was still being printed while they are awaiting primary elections re-runs to be ordered by the party’s National Appeals Board. He said their manifesto would be launched in September 2024.
He further said they have been frequenting the courts of law, as there were a number of cases that they had to deal with.
Mr Reatile explained that the BPF would contest the upcoming parliamentary general elections in over 40 with five women candidates.
For his part, Dr Mmatli said they made the decision to join the BPF after assessing several issues. He said their desire was to take Botswana forward. He said they consulted their former party leadership on their decision to jump ship.
He further said the BPF slogan resonates with His Excellency, President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi’s Reset Agenda and Mindset Change to change thoughts, behaviours and feelings to take Botswana forward.
