BQA Strengthens Partnerships for Graduate Recognition

Africa-Press – Botswana. Graduates in Botswana may soon find it easier to have their qualifications recognised by professional bodies, as the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) pursues strategic partnerships to enhance the quality and relevance of education.

Acting Deputy CEO Ofentse Disang explained that these collaborations are designed to align academic qualifications with industry and professional standards. The goal is to ensure that what students learn in classrooms meets the practical needs of the job market and prepares graduates for professional practice.

Disang revealed that BQA has already signed Memorandums of Understanding with key professional bodies, including the Law Society of Botswana and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He noted that more partnerships are planned under the Authority’s annual stakeholder engagement plan, targeting additional sectors to further strengthen the link between education and professional requirements.

“These frameworks will bring clarity, efficiency, and accountability into the process of recognising qualifications,” Disang said. “Graduates will benefit from having credentials that meet both national and international benchmarks, improving their employability and career mobility.”

By engaging with professional bodies, BQA aims to address gaps in the education system where academic programs may not fully reflect industry expectations. These partnerships are expected to streamline the certification process, reduce delays in recognition, and provide clear pathways for graduates entering regulated professions.

The initiative also supports Botswana’s broader objective of building a competitive workforce that can meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy. Aligning education with professional standards ensures that graduates are not only academically competent but also workplace-ready, enhancing their contribution to economic development and innovation.

Through these measures, BQA is positioning itself as a central facilitator in bridging the gap between education and industry, ensuring that Botswana’s graduates are equipped with qualifications that hold value both locally and internationally.
