Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has achieved remarkable financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2025, demonstrating resilience despite a challenging environment.
Acting chief executive officer Ms Boitumelo Paya highlighted during a performance briefing on Thursday in Gaborone, that strategic investments and service expansion were key drivers behind the success, positioning the company for sustained growth.
She reported that revenue increased by four per cent to P1.49 billion, driven by growing demand for data-centric services.
Ms Paya said the growth was mainly attributed to the increased adoption of fixed and mobile data, supported by BTC’s ongoing investments in high-speed fiber optic networks and mobile data infrastructure.
The company also saw a substantial rise in profitability, with profit before tax up by 30 per cent to P259 million.
This improvement, Ms Paya said reflected the effectiveness of BTC’s operational efficiencies and diversified revenue streams.
Additionally, earnings per share increased by 28.4 per cent to 19.26 thebe, indicating better returns for shareholders. In line with its strong financial performance, she announced a dividend payout of P151 million, reaffirming confidence in future prospects.
Mobile money services and cloud solutions also played significant roles in the company’s growth. Ms Paya explained that these sectors had gained popularity, driven by increased digital adoption among consumers and businesses.
The expansion of cloud services, in particular, has opened new revenue streams for BTC.
Looking ahead, Ms Paya said BTC was planning for further investments in network upgrades.
These initiatives, she said aimed to meet the rising customer demands and leverage emerging digital opportunities, adding that the company was broadening its pricing options to improve affordability and accessibility.
As BTC enters a new financial year, Ms Paya said the focus remained clear and purposeful; accelerating digital inclusion, creating shared value, and enabling national development.
